When neighbors entered the Hinterkaifeck farmstead in April 1922, they found all six victims dead. But the cows had still been milked. The animals had been fed and fresh straw had been placed for them.

Someone knew the routine

Whoever did this knew the cattle's routine and had time to follow it. The young son was found in the barn. The adults were inside the house.

The murderer had vanished from a scene with no clear escape. Yet someone was still tending the farm.

There was no name, confession, or confirmed trail. For a while, someone fed the animals and moved through Hinterkaifeck as if it were home.

The killer may have stayed on the farm after all six victims were dead.
