Ferry photo reveals a man wearing her face
A ferry worker finds old camera files showing a wet stranger on a scrapped deck. Seven years later, the same man appears behind her in a new image.
A wet man stood between two cars facing away in a photo from the ferry's lowest deck. The ferry in that photo had already been scrapped. After a gate jammed, June found old files containing ferry camera images.
Seven years after June found them, the newest image, taken moments earlier, showed the same man behind June, with June visible in the frame. June spun around, but the deck was empty. Every car alarm began at once.
Trapped below deck
The ramp shuttered shut, trapping June below. Water crawled over the concrete from a split near the wall. June ran for the stairs, but the door opened onto the same deck.
She tried the door again, and it opened onto the same deck. June took one picture with her phone. The screen showed the man beside her, his hand on her shoulder.
The stranger's face
His face was hers. When the crew opened the deck, June was gone. The ferry camera had saved one final frame.
It showed the stranger standing in June's place, his soaked coat dripping onto the floor. The camera on the lowest deck takes a picture whenever the ramp closes. It records who the ferry keeps.
